I learned photography from my father, an avid and skilled amateur who carried his foldable Kodak Vigilant 616 medium-format camera with him through World War II.  I still have that camera.  If categorization is helpful, then I would call myself a travel photographer since that encompasses so many of the genres you will find on this website: street scenes, nature, landscapes and seascapes, portraits, architecture, monotone etc.
Reflecting my interest in travel photography, this website is currently organized around places I have visited since the advent of digital photography.  Of course, I have boxes of photographs taken in places visited before digital photography came along.  Adding those to a digital website would be a fearsome undertaking.  Maybe someday.
For now, I still have a great deal of digital content to add.  I plan to add Portfolios focused on some of the genres mentioned above: in particular, people, cityscapes, local scenes from the Philly area and especially black-and-white and monotone photography, which is where I started with my Dad’s camera and darkroom equipment.  And, fortunately, I am still traveling so new places will appear from time to time.  I hope, of course, that this website does not become just a collection of travel postcards but will also convey a sense of the spirit and energy that makes these places worth visiting.  You’ll be the judge of how successful I have been.
Finally, as the one who built this website, I strongly advise against trying to swallow it whole in one sitting. I know I couldn’t.  My Preview Portfolio is intended to give you a sample of my work and the places I’ve visited.  Try that one first and, if you find something you like, explore the Portfolio it came from.  The Preview Portfolio will change from time to time to add new photographs from current Portfolios and fresh photographs from new Portfolios.  I may even add some photographs from Portfolios I am still working on.
All of the photographs on this website are my work, unless otherwise noted, such as the photograph on this page which was taken by Sam Makala, my guide on the mountain.
